I Will Declare My Asset Publicly And Release The Document To The Public.

Our Assessment

This promise is rated Completed. Governor Seyi Makinde fulfilled this pledge shortly after his inauguration in July 2019 by publicly sharing copies of his Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) asset declaration forms with journalists, revealing a net worth of over ₦48 billion.

Why It Matters

Public asset declaration is a cornerstone of political transparency and anti-corruption. While the Nigerian Constitution requires public officers to declare their assets to the CCB, it does not mandate them to make these documents available to the public. By voluntarily releasing his asset details, the Governor established a clear baseline of his personal wealth before taking office. This allows citizens, civil society groups, and anti-graft agencies to monitor his financial status and ensure that state resources are not illicitly diverted into personal accounts during his tenure.

Progress So Far

Makinde Makes ₦48 Billion Asset Declaration Public

On July 15, 2019, Seyi Makinde visited the CCB office in Ibadan, retrieved a copy of his submitted asset declaration form (Form CCB 1), and released the details to the media. The declaration included cash at hand, money in local and foreign accounts, buildings, landed properties, and shares in various corporate entities.

The Governor maintained this commitment at the conclusion of his first term. In May 2023, he submitted his end-of-tenure asset declaration forms to the CCB and publicly announced the status of his wealth, noting that his overall net worth had decreased by approximately 10% due to campaign financing and inflation over the four-year period.
