Secure Sole Ownership Of LAUTECH For Oyo State

Our Assessment

This promise is rated Completed. On November 20, 2020, the National Universities Commission officially dissolved the joint ownership with Osun State and granted Oyo State full control of the university following successful diplomatic negotiations.

Why It Matters

Joint ownership led to constant funding crises and strikes that left students at home for months. By taking full responsibility, Oyo State ensured a stable school calendar and the ability to grow the university. This move also allowed the state to turn the school into a multi-campus institution, bringing higher education closer to people in other regions.

Oyo Secures LAUTECH Sole Ownership

Work on this goal started immediately in 2019 with the creation of a special committee to talk with Osun State.

By late 2020, both states signed an agreement to end the joint partnership. Oyo State took over the Ogbomoso campus, while Osun State took the College of Health Sciences in Osogbo.

Once the state took over, it increased the school's budget and updated its laws to allow for more courses like Law and Business. The administration also began building a second campus in Iseyin and started paying the agreed ₦8 billion settlement to Osun State.
