Within The First Two Years Of Being Reelected, We Will Develop The Slave Heritage Tourism Route And Build Infrastructure Around It To Make It Attractive To Local And Foreign Tourists

Governor Seyi Makinde promised to develop Oyo State's slave heritage tourism route, including mapping historic slave trade paths and building supporting infrastructure, within the first two years of his second term (by May 2025). This would create a world-class heritage tourism site attracting local and international visitors, generating revenue, jobs in hospitality and guiding, and educating about Yoruba history while promoting cultural pride.

By February 2026, the slave heritage tourism route project was still in the study phase, with an interdisciplinary committee and consultants commissioned in 2024 to produce reports but no route developed, infrastructure built, or tourist facilities operational, marking the promise as not started.
