We Will Introduce The Pilot Of A Statebacked Student Loan System, Within The First Year Of Being Re-elected. We Will Pilot This Programme With 100 Students, Three From Each LGA And One Selected By The State Government

Our Assessment

Governor Seyi Makinde promised to launch a state-backed student loan pilot within the first year of his second term (by May 2024), collaborating with private sector partners to fund university education for 100 children from the poorest families, 3 per LGA (99 total) plus 1 state-selected student. This would break financial barriers for indigent youth, enabling higher education access, reducing dropout rates, and building a skilled workforce from underserved communities.

No evidence exists of the promised state-backed pilot launching by May 2024. Official trackers list it as "in progress" with no operational details. The explicit first-year pilot for 100 state university students never materialized as specified, classifying this as broken.
