We Will Provide Public Water In All Of Ibadan Within The First Year Of Being Reelected.

Our Assessment

An assessment of this promise reveals a situation of substantial, verifiable progress that falls short of the universal coverage pledged within the one-year timeframe. Governor Makinde's promise to provide water for all of Ibadan within one year was overambitious in its timeline. In almost three years, this promise is still not fully completed.

Gov. Makinde makes giant steps but still short of fulfilling Promise

A fundamental promise of Governor Seyi Makinde's re-election campaign was to resolve the long-standing water crisis in Oyo State's capital. The administration made an unequivocal commitment: to provide public water in all of Ibadan within the first year of being re-elected. This pledge aimed to ensure that every resident of the sprawling city had access to a clean, reliable, and piped water supply, addressing a critical public health and quality-of-life issue.

Governor Makinde's promise to provide water for all of Ibadan within one year was overambitious in its timeline but has been followed by the most significant positive action on the issue in years. The restoration of the Asejire Water Plant and the return of water to several communities is a major victory that deserves recognition.

However, to assess the promise strictly, it must be concluded that it has not been fully achieved. The goal of universal coverage remains a work in progress. The administration's success in this sector will ultimately be judged not by a one-year deadline, but by its sustained commitment to systematically expanding this essential service until every resident of Ibadan can turn on their tap and receive clean, running water. The journey has impressively begun, but it is not yet complete.
