We Will Increase The Number Of Women Commissioners In The Reconstituted Oyo State Executive Council From Two To Four

Our Assessment

Governor Seyi Makinde fulfilled this promise within the first four months of his second term. By increasing the number of female commissioners from two to four, the administration successfully met the specific numeric target set in its "Omituntun 2.0" manifesto. While it has been noted that four women in a cabinet of over 20 members still represents a minority, the Governor strictly adhered to the campaign pledge to double the previous count. This commitment, combined with the appointment of women to other top leadership roles like the SSG and Head of Service, demonstrates a clear and completed effort to improve gender inclusivity in the state's highest decision-making body.

Makinde Delivers on Pledge to increase number of women commissioners

Following his re-election in 2023, Governor Makinde submitted his first list of commissioner-nominees to the House of Assembly, which included two women: Mrs. Toyin Balogun (Women Affairs and Social Inclusion) and Alhaja Fausat Joke Sanni (Special Duties).

To meet the campaign target, the Governor swore in two additional female commissioners on September 14, 2023: Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi (Health) and Miss Wasilat Adegoke (Youth and Sports).

As of early 2026, we can confirm that these four women continue to serve in the Oyo State Executive Council, maintaining the promised 100% increase in female commissioner representation.

Beyond the commissionership level, the administration also appointed women to the state's two highest civil service positions: the Secretary to the State Government (Prof. Olanike Adeyemo) and the Head of Service (Mrs. Olubunmi Oni), marking a historical first for the state.
